Happy New Year!!!

I was just thinking the other day about New Year's Resolutions...here is mine...I am going to keep our class blog up to date....

January 
On Jan. 10 we had Mark Larson, Meteorologist from KWCH Ch. 12 come and do a presentation on weather.  He talked about what his job is at the station.  He made a cloud in a bottle.   The kids had an awesome time. 

February-----Heart Strings
Once again 2nd grade along with the help of 4th grade will begin our annual Heart Strings Service Project.

Make a Difference Day!


Monday, Oct. 29 Lincoln 2nd graders went to the Cedars to meet the residents and take them a special gift.  The students took their iPods and interviewed the residents.  The students also recited a poem....Falling Leaves. 

Election Time!!!!



November brought our Mock Election.....Who did you vote for?  The students created voting commercials to encourage the students to vote.  We learned about the differences between Democrats and Republicans.....Lincoln Elementary had more votes for Mitt Romney.....Thanks to all of the parents who helped run the election throughout the day.   Special thanks to Nick Gosnell for putting together a Voting Commercial for Election Day!!!

Spiders, Bats, Skeletons, and Harriet's Halloween Candy





October brought spiders and bats to our classroom....we learned the facts about these spooky and scary creatures.......Then on Oct. 31 we did the Skeleton Dance and read Dem Bones along with our Math activity.....Harriet's Halloween Candy.

Inventors......Brilliant minds thinking outside the box.....

In Social Studies we learned about inventors and the brilliant creations that they created as well as the mistakes that worked.   The students were given two inventions to create.....they were given a table full of supplies and had to create a free standing object or a catapult.   They also were given a piece of paper and had to create the longest piece of paper that they could....the trick is to cut the paper in a spiral.....See what they created.....

Mapping Our World

In Social Studies 2nd graders study map skills and the habitats that are in our world.  
We had fun learning about the continents, countries, and our United States.

During the Fridays in September Mr. Willems came to 
teach us about how to stand up to bullies.
He is a 5th degree black belt in Taekwando. 
 The bully prevention classes tie in perfectly with our 
8 Keys of Excellence program.

Rain, Rain Go Away....
On Oct. 1 Tammie Henson from McPherson Safe Kids came to present the 2nd graders bike safety lessons and have the students complete the bike rodeo....Well the weather didn't cooperate but Tammie pulled through for the kids with something fun.....McPherson EMT came with the Ambulance to teach kids about how to be safe and what the EMT's job is on the ambulance.
